What year were you at Brighton Bay?
2010
What have you been doing since BB? Degree? Work? Exhibitions?
I am currently in my second year at RMIT University, studying the Bachelor of Design (Fashion). I am a committee member for the agIdeas International Design Week festival, and partake in fashion parades held by the RMIT program.
Looking back, how has your year at BB had impact or effect? Please explain.
BB certainly helped me put into perspective what I wanted to do in my further study. I came into the program with numerous ideas of where in the art and design industry I wanted to go, and came out focused and driven to make it into Fashion Design at RMIT. During my year, I saw my skills develop and managed to form a folio that I was very proud to take to tertiary interviews. BB also gave me the opportunity to learn and experience specialized disciplines and techniques that I definitely would not have learnt if I had just gone straight to tertiary study.
Why would you recommend Brighton Bay to potential students? And / or parents?
BB is a great option for those who know they want to be in design but don’t know where specifically. It’s also great for those who know where they want to go, and want to broaden their skills. Having an array of skills across the entire board of art and design is invaluable to whatever industry you end up in. I have learnt the worth of having knowledge in illustration, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, new media and 2D Design, and how it can be utilised in my current studies.
What's your fondest memory from your time at BB?
The friends and future colleagues. Being in an environment with like-minded people and having crazy, creative ideas constantly bouncing around the room was a fantastic experience. And also the bakery down the road had some amazing chocolate croissants!
